When a hybrid will not enter READY and the dash is silent, most often the 12 V battery has failed, not the traction battery. We jump-start only on the 12 V circuit.
A safe order
- Positive to the 12 V battery positive, or to the point under the bonnet if that model has one
- Negative to body earth, not to a terminal by the HV pack
- No cables on the orange wires
- After the READY message do not switch the car off at once: the converter has to charge the 12 V battery
When it is no longer “a weak morning”
If there is no response again after a night, the 12 V battery needs replacing or the converter is not charging it. The symptoms are described in the text on the 12 V battery.
