A high-mileage and taxi hybrid — what to check every 50,000 km

High mileage does not have to mean a dead battery. A check plan for hard use.

A high-mileage and taxi hybrid — what to check every 50,000 km

A Toyota Prius in a taxi is a legend of durability, but only with regular servicing. At 50–80 thousand km a year the hybrid system works more than an average car does in 15 years.

What every 50,000 km?

  • HV battery diagnostics with a record of module voltages
  • Cleaning the fan and the pack cooling ducts
  • An engine oil change (even if the schedule says less often)
  • A check of the brake fluid and the rear discs
  • A 12 V battery test — in a fleet it fails most often

Signs of a tired pack in a fleet

Fuel use up 1–2 l, weaker acceleration, the battery fan on high all the time. An early module rebuild is often cheaper than a taxi off the road.

Records for the drivers

A simple log: date, mileage, average SOC, fault codes. It helps predict a failure before the car stops at the peak of the season.
